Jamie Overton starred with the ball as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured their first win of IPL 2026. His spell helped CSK defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 23 runs on April 11 in Chennai.
Defending a strong total of 212, Overton struck at crucial moments to completely shift the momentum. He first removed Sameer Rizvi (6), DC’s highest run-scorer so far this season. In his next over, he dismissed in-form batter David Miller (17). His third wicket came when debutant Aquib Nabi (4) was superbly caught at extra cover by Akeal Hosein. The Englishman then turned the game decisively by removing Tristan Stubbs (60), who looked dangerous at the crease. The 32-year-old conceded just 18 runs in his four overs at an economy rate of 4.50.
With the bat, Sanju Samson was the standout performer, as the wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 115 off 56 balls. His knock included 15 boundaries and four maximums at a strike–rate of 205.35. Youngster Ayush Mhatre also added a valuable 59 before retiring out, while Shivam Dube contributed a quick, unbeaten 20 at the end, helping CSK push the total past 200.
Apart from Overton, Anshul Kamboj impressed with three wickets, while debutant Gurjapneet Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Noor Ahmad chipped in with a wicket each.
CSK will next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 14 in Chennai.
