Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have roped in George Linde as a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga, who will miss the tournament after failing to recover fully from the hamstring injury he sustained during the T20 World Cup.
This will be Linde’s first stint with an IPL franchise. The South African all-rounder will join LSG at his reserve price of INR 1 crore.
The announcement comes on the back of comments made by LSG Director of Cricket Tom Moody on Thursday.
“Wanindu Hasaranga will not be able to join us, and we are preparing to bring in a replacement. We will be announcing it in the next 24 to 48 hours,” Moody said during LSG’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
Linde is an experienced T20 campaigner, with more than 200 matches under his belt. He has scored over 2,000 runs and taken more than 200 wickets, maintaining an economy rate of 7.42.
“Linde joins our potent bowling unit alongside the likes of Digvesh Rathi and Manimaran Siddharth, among other spinners, strengthening our spin options. George Linde, welcome to the Lucknow Super Giants. Let us get started and taste success together. On behalf of the Super Giants family, we wish Wanindu Hasaranga a speedy recovery,” stated an LSG media release.
Signed as a like-for-like replacement for the bowling all-rounder Hasaranga, Linde will further reinforce the spin attack, which already includes Digvesh Rathi, M Siddharth and Shahbaz Ahmed.
LSG are currently placed fifth in the points table, having won two of their three matches.
