Back-to-back defeats for table-toppers Punjab Kings (PBKS) as Gujarat Titans (GT) handed them their second loss of IPL 2026 on Sunday in Ahmedabad. After restricting the visitors to 163, courtesy of exceptional bowling from Jason Holder, GT chased down the target with one ball to spare and four wickets in hand, strengthening their playoff chances with a win in front of the home crowd.
Suryansh Shedge saves PBKS from batting collapse
It was a rare off-day for the PBKS top order as they lost three wickets in the powerplay. Things became even trickier when they were reduced to 47/5 in 8.4 overs. However, Suryansh Shedge showed why the franchise has backed him, smashing a counter-attacking 57 off 29 balls at a strike rate of 196.55. His 79-run partnership with Marcus Stoinis (40) helped PBKS recover and post a respectable total. A quick 20-run cameo from Marco Jansen also pushed them to 163/9.
Jason Holder rattles PBKS with the ball
With every match, Jason Holder’s inclusion in the GT XI is proving crucial. After a Player of the Match-winning all-round performance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Holder delivered again, this time with the ball. Following early wickets from Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, Holder struck twice in the middle overs and added two more at the death. His economical spell of 4/24 in four overs put GT firmly on top.

Sai Sudharsan continues rich form
GT had a shaky start to the chase, losing skipper Shubman Gill early for five. But Sai Sudharsan anchored the innings, ensuring stability at one end. He scored 57 off 41 and shared a crucial 53-run stand with Jos Buttler for the second wicket. It marked his third fifty-plus score in the last four games — 100 vs RCB, 87 vs CSK, 6 vs RCB, and now 57 vs PBKS.
Washington Sundar’s match-winning, unbeaten knock
Questions have often been raised about Washington Sundar’s role in this GT lineup, but he answered the critics with a composed finish. Coming in at number five with 70 needed off 8.3 overs, Sundar understood the conditions and the importance of holding one end after Sudharsan’s dismissal. Using his experience, he remained unbeaten on 40 off 23 balls, striking at 173.91, and guided GT home.
PBKS bowlers tried to pull things back as GT needed 11 in the final over. Crucial runs came early, and a match-winning six from Sundar sealed GT’s sixth win of the season.
