The third match of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup saw Australia Women take on South Africa Women, and they produced a dominant all-round display to register a 65-run victory.
After being put in to bat, Australia posted 172/8 in 20 overs, before bowling South Africa out for 107 in 16.4 overs.
Australia’s victory was driven by an outstanding all-round performance from Georgia Wareham, who was named Player of the Match. While Wareham made significant contributions with both bat and ball, she was quick to highlight the strength of the Australian set-up and the confidence it gives players to express themselves.
“With our batting line-up, you can play with a lot of confidence and freedom knowing the batting to come,” Wareham told the host broadcasters. The leg-spinner emphasised the depth and flexibility within Australia’s batting order, explaining that different players are capable of stepping up on different days depending on the situation.
Wareham also praised team-mate Phoebe Litchfield, saying: “Pheebs was awesome today.” She noted that Australia’s batting group is highly versatile and that success often comes down to communication and understanding roles within the team.
“Depending on the day, all of us are pretty versatile and it’s just about communicating. Nice to be part of that group,” she added.
Reflecting on the bowling performance that restricted South Africa to 107, Wareham highlighted the quality of Australia’s attack and the work done behind the scenes on the field.
“Good bowling unit. Between Ash and myself, we try and get ourselves in the hotspots in the deep,” she said, underlining the collective effort that contributed to the victory.
Wareham also paid tribute to captain Sophie Molineux, crediting her leadership for creating a positive and fearless environment within the squad.
“Soph’s been awesome, instilling a lot of freedom within the group and making the group believe we are a good team and can take on this tournament and that’s pretty awesome,” Wareham said.
Wareham backed up her words with a match-winning display. With the bat, she scored a rapid 32 off 22 balls, striking at 145.45, helping Australia finish strongly. She then starred with the ball, claiming three wickets for 13 runs in 2.4 overs at an economy rate of 4.87, dismantling South Africa’s lower-order and ensuring Australia completed a comprehensive win
