Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Ajinkya Rahane admitted his disappointment after his side failed to qualify for the 2026 IPL playoffs. KKR ended their 2026 campaign with a 40-run defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
Speaking to the broadcasters after the match, Rahane reflected on his performance and KKR’s 2026 campaign. “I was batting really well,” he said. “I took my chances. I just want to say that, given the kind of season we had, I’m really proud of each and every one. From the situation we were in, we kept the league alive… I’m proud of each and every individual. They put in the effort going out there. We didn’t qualify, which is disappointing.”
While chasing a challenging target of 204, captain Rahane played a fighting knock of 63 off 39 balls, but did not receive enough support from the other batters. Finn Allen (20), Manish Pandey (25) and Rovman Powell (29) got good starts, but wickets kept falling at the other end. The side was bowled out for 163 in 18.4 overs to end their season on a disappointing note.
Speaking about the team’s plans after the season, Rahane added, “At the moment, the guys have their commitments. We’ll probably connect over a call and have discussions. For me, just a couple of days off. I’m going to play my local league in Mumbai.”
With the ball, Saurabh Dubey was the standout performer, finishing with figures of 2/28 in his four overs. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Anukul Roy also chipped in with a wicket each.
KKR finished their 2026 campaign in seventh place in the points table, managing six wins from 14 matches.
