Gujarat Titans (GT) registered a thumping victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground, winning by a massive margin of 89 runs to seal their spot in the top two and eliminate the five-time champions from the tournament.
Here are some of the highlights from the match:
Gill–Sudharsan duo assert their dominance again
The GT openers delivered a commanding performance against CSK on their home turf at the Narendra Modi Stadium, stitching together a massive 125-run partnership and leaving no stone unturned in taking on every bowler. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front, showcasing sublime form with a fluent 64 off 37 deliveries, bringing up his half-century in just 23 balls. His innings comprised crisp boundaries and smart strike rotation, reflecting intent, aggression and authority.
Sai Sudharsan, on the other hand, initially played second fiddle to Gill, anchoring the innings before accelerating brilliantly. He finished with an impressive 84 off 53 balls, including seven fours and four sixes, underlining the duo’s remarkable consistency at the top of the Orange Cap standings. The cap briefly moved to Gill before returning to Sudharsan once again.
Jos Buttler carries the momentum forward
Walking in after Gill’s dismissal, Buttler ensured the momentum did not dip even for a second. He attacked from ball one, dealing almost exclusively in boundaries, and finished with 57 off 27 balls at a staggering strike rate of 211.
Producing a typical Buttler-esque innings, he stayed at the crease till the very end, guiding Gujarat Titans to a huge total of 229. The top three once again stood tall in a must-win game, underlining their consistency and ability to deliver when it mattered most.
GT dominate in the field to seal top-two spot
The Titans dominated proceedings in the field as well, combining disciplined bowling with sharp catching to confirm their place in the top two. Mohammed Siraj set the tone early, striking three times in the powerplay to dismantle the top order, dismissing Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad and UrvilPatel – batters who could have proved dangerous had they settled.
Rashid Khan then took control in the middle overs, picking up three crucial wickets with his trademark precision. Just as Shivam Dube looked set and had even hit Rashid for a six, the leg-spinner responded by inducing an edge, which wassuperbly caught by Gill.
Kagiso Rabada chipped in with three wickets of his own – one in the powerplay and two at the death – completing an all-round effort. The fielding was also excellent, with the team ensuring they did not drop a single catch and completely strangling the CSK batters.
Dube emerges as CSK’s lone warrior
Despite a major top-order collapse, Dube tried his level best to get things going for CSK. He specifically targeted Jason Holder in one over, smashing a sequence of 6, 4, 0, 6. He ended up scoring 47 at a strike rate of 276, but his efforts went in vain as he failed to receive support from the other end.
