Devdutt Padikkal’s pyrotechnics (55 off 27 balls) and Virat Kohli’s composure (81 off 44) steered Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a six-wicket win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2026 IPL game played at the Chinnaswamy. RCB now sit second on the points table.
Fireworks from Padikkal and Kohli
The RCB duo put on an exhibition of strokeplay to place their side in pole position in a chase of 206. Pull, punch, whip, loft – you name a shot and the pair played it. The highlight of the duo’s shot-making was perhaps Kohli taking it on the rise against Prasidh Krishna and tonking it through the covers. Padikkal also showcased his class when he essayed the pick-up shot off Kagiso Rabada.
The pair also handled Rashid Khan with confidence, collecting 29 off his first two overs. By the time they were dismissed, RCB needed just 52 runs off 38 balls. Krunal Pandya (23 off 12) then provided the finishing touches to the chase.
Sai Sudharsan’s hundred in vain
The left-hand batter blended clever rotation of strike with five sixes to compile a 58-ball 100. Sudharsan largely dominated the opening stand of 128 with Shubman Gill. Unfortunately, his innings ended up on the losing side.
The missed opportunity
GT did have a chance to pick up Kohli’s wicket in the first over itself, but Washington Sundar dropped a sitter off Mohammed Siraj at midwicket. It turned out to be a costly miss.
Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood rise to the occasion
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood combined to concede only 13 runs in the 18th and 19th overs to put the brakes on the scoring rate. Although Krunal went for 18 in the final over, those two overs ensured GT would not post an above-par score.
The passionate crowd and cramps/injuries
When Kohli was dropped, there was a massive cheer. Every time he struck a shot, there was a crescendo of noise. Even outside the stadium, despite a heavy police presence, fans lined the busy Queen’s Road to catch a glimpse of RCB’s bus.
Meanwhile, there was some drama in the final over of GT’s innings as both Rasikh Salam and Krunal suffered cramps.
