Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar lit up the Wankhede Stadium with a brilliant 53-run knock off 20 balls against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 12 in the ongoing IPL 2026.
After a strong 120-run opening stand between Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, Patidar came in and made sure that the innings did not slow down. He smashed a fifty off just 17 balls, eventually getting out on 53, hitting four fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 265.
The most exciting moment came against Mayank Markande in the 12th over, where he hit three sixes in a row, including a clever reverse sweep. He then put more pressure on Shardul Thakur, helping RCB score big in that over as well.
By reaching his fifty in just 17 balls, Patidar matched Chris Gayle’s record for the second-fastest fifty in RCB history.
It was also his back-to-back fifties, as he scored 63 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their last match. After this knock against MI, he is now second in the Orange Cap race, with 195 runs in four innings at an average of 65 and a strike rate of 214.28.
He was eventually dismissed by Mitchell Santner, but by then RCB were already in a strong position at 194/3 in 16 overs. His quick innings helped the team reach a huge total of 240/4 for MI to chase.
