As the Pakistan women’s cricket team prepare to face the Zimbabwe women’s cricket team in an ODI series ahead of the T20I World Cup, the build-up has an interesting twist, with Zimbabwe still in search of a new head coach. Zimbabwe will arrive in Karachi on April 29 and begin training. The ODI series will follow, with matches scheduled for May 6 and 9, before a three-match T20I series, which is scheduled to start on May 12.
Pakistan have also announced a fresh squad for the series, with Momina Riasat earning her maiden call-up. With a mix of new and experienced players, the team will look to build rhythm in the 50-over format.
The side head into this series after a competitive ODI series against South Africa, where they lost 2–1 but showed signs of improvement. The biggest positive for the team was captain Fatima Sana, who led from the front with both bat and ball.
Fatima scored 117 runs and picked up four wickets in the series, maintaining an impressive strike-rate of 136.04. After a quiet first match, she bounced back with 52 off 36 balls in the second ODI, setting a record for the fastest fifty by a Pakistani woman. She then bettered her own record in the third ODI with a quick 60 off 41 balls, helping Pakistan reach 306/8, their highest total against South Africa.
Overall, her performances showed a clear change in Pakistan’s approach, with more attacking intent and confidence. As they now prepare to face Zimbabwe, the series gives them a good chance to test combinations and build momentum ahead of bigger tournaments.
Squad for the Pakistan women’s team: Fatima Sana (captain), Aliya Riaz, Ayesha Zafar, Diana Baig, Gull Feroza, Momina Riasat, Muneeba Ali (wk), Najiha Alvi (wk), Nashra Sundhu, Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Sidra Amin, Syeda Aroob Shah, Tasmia Rubab.
