In a thrilling final, the Indian men’s cricket team created history by lifting the inaugural ADCA T20I Asia Cup, finishing the tournament as undefeated champions. India edged past Sri Lanka by six wickets in a nail-biting summit clash at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

The contest evoked memories of the previous encounter between the two sides, but this time the script was flipped. India held their nerve in another down-to-the-wire finish, with last-ball drama once again keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

Opting to field first, India restricted Sri Lanka to 144 for 7 in their 20 overs. Sri Lanka fought hard in defence, but India chased down the target with a ball to spare.

Sri Lankan opener Gimadu L Malkam provided early momentum with a fluent 62 off 46 deliveries, but support from the other end was limited. Captain Alanrose Kalep (22) was the only other batter to cross the 20-run mark.

For India, Yashwanth Naidu proved decisive despite conceding 23 runs in his three overs, claiming three crucial wickets at key moments. Sai Akash picked up two wickets, while skipper Virender Singh and Pranil More chipped in with one apiece.

India’s batting effort was marked by balance and composure. Openers Sai Akash and Santosh K.M laid a solid foundation, setting the tempo early. Sai Akash’s explosive 27 off just 14 balls gave India the initial push, while Santosh anchored the innings with a well-paced 43 off 41. Captain Virender Singh then played a calm and authoritative knock of 52 off 45, stabilising the chase before Abhishek Singh and Pranil More guided the team home.

With eight runs required off the final over, Sri Lankan skipper Kalep took responsibility with the ball. After two singles from the first two deliveries, a boundary from Abhishek Singh eased the pressure. In a role reversal from their previous match, where Sri Lanka needed two runs from three balls, India found themselves in that position this time. A single brought Pranil More on strike, and the winning run came via a leg bye, triggering jubilant celebrations as the batters crossed and were soon joined by their team-mates.

Speaking on the landmark achievement, Indian Deaf Cricket Association CEO Roma Balwani quoted Nelson Mandela, saying: “Sport has the power to change the world, and over these days we saw that power, the power to unite, to inspire, and to build inclusion.”
